Women of the ELCA (WELCA)

OUR MISSION & PURPOSE As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in  faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
Who are the Women of the ELCA at First Lutheran Church in Amery? All adult women who are members of First Lutheran are automatically members of the larger women’s organization, Women of the ELCA. The First Lutheran women are part of the Apple River Conference which is comprised of about thirty congregations. The Apple River Conference is part of the Northwest Wisconsin Synod Women of the ELCA. Each of the organizations has a slate of officers to take care of business and oversee the work of the larger church.
Locally the FLC Women of the ELCA participate in monthly Bible studies. They meet at 9:30 A.M. on the third Thursday of each month in the room next to the kitchen at church. They collect a monthly offering of which one-half goes to the synod for various missions and for conducting business on the larger level. Locally they donate money to various charities. They also distribute cookies to shut-in members at Christmas time. They participate in quilting for Lutheran World Relief, prepare personal care kits and school supply kits.
This year they will host World Day of Prayer here on Friday, March 7th. They participate in Spring Day of Renewal and a retreat in late summer as well as leadership training in October. They are a friendly group of ladies who welcome women of all ages to become involved at FLC.

March 7th, 2014 - First Lutheran hosted World Day of Prayer this year on March 7th. The theme was Streams in the Desert. The program was prepared by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Egypt. Egypt is the scene of many Bible stories, including the one of Pharaoh's daughter, who dared to contradict her father's command by rescuing the infant Moses from drowning.
Mary Lou Wold chaired the event and received help from ladies of churches in the Amery area for the skit, readers, and music. Following the service coffee and bars were served in the fellowship hall.
